Southampton haven't played Sheffield United in the Championship so far, but one of their announcements will cause trouble to the Saints campaign though it relates to a past Saints tactician.
Not many Championship derbies have played their first leg this season, but they are almost certain to provide a better game than Southampton's, whenever they will take place. And it's good that the EFL only draws a shortlist of talented players of the season, else, a similar ranking list of local rivalries can see the Saints announced as joint last alongside Portsmouth.
Without a glimmer of doubt, Southampton needs to start showing their Premier League-ness, and by that I don't mean the same image that is now painted upon Wolves at the moment.
Instead, a trip to the winning ladder is required. Else, the St. Mary's backyard might not witness much losses but may have to cancel the Premier League preparations for next year.
And just when the second division was set to move towards the fixture-heavy mid season period, Southampton's misery has been expanded by a Championship announcement.
Past coach Rubén Sellés has been phased out of Sheffield United and in their words: "The board of directors wish to thank Mr Sellés for his hard work. A new manager will be named in due course."
Sellés dismissal can alter the course of Southampton's season
Sounds like the May situation all over, where Sellés was offloaded from a second-tier outfit but only Southampton fans felt bad with that development. Right now, it's the outbreak of problems for Southampton because the tactician carrying over from Sellés may put the Saints limited to the fences of the top-six spots.
He is Chris Wilder, who had been away from Southampton's division for the past five years but now there is no hiding from him. Plus, a coach marching with the same set of match winners that nearly bridged the path to the Premier League is always one to fear from.
Talking about a headstart, then Southampton have a six-point lead over the Blades and let's hope this gap only broadens for the better.
