Danny Rohl’s breakout star now firmly on Southampton’s radar (and fans get it)

Southampton is believed to be at the front of the race for Sheffield Wednesday's teenage breakout star Sutura Kakay. He has the Danny Rohl imprint.

After some experimentation with different managers, Southampton is confident that next season will be a better one with Will Still at the helm. Of course, they're not blindsided to his lack of experience, but the fresh approach could help the Saints.

Besides, they're in a state of "well, it can't be worse than last season." Narrowly missing out on beating Derby's poor record, the Saints needed a new approach, Ivan Juric just wasn't up to scratch.

Will Still is a young manager himself, and he wants to build a core of young players at St Marys Stadium to steer the club back in the right direction.

Southampton lead the race to sign Sutura Kakay

According to a report from The Star, Southampton currently lead the race to sign Sheffield Wednesday youngster Sutura Kakay.

The 18-year-old has turned down the opportunity to sign a professional contract with Sheffield Wednesday, so he's believed to be on his way out this summer. Southampton are at the top of the pecking order to sign him, but they aren't without competition.

Joe Crann believes that Wednesday would prefer to settle the compensation owed by whichever club signs Kakay through a mutual club agreement. It's either that or a tribunal, which is less than ideal for both clubs.

Southampton want Danny Rohl's prodigy

Of course, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday are familiar with one another already. The decision makers at both clubs probably have each other on speed dial at this point.

The main link between Southampton and Wednesday is the man in charge of the Owls, Danny Rohl. Having experience at coaching capacity at Southampton, Rohl knows the club well, and Southampton even considered him before Ivan Juric... And Will Still.

Danny Rohl back to Southampton is the love story which doesn't seem to unfold for whatever reason. Nevertheless, Southampton could still get their own taste of Rohl by signing Kakay.

Obviously, losing Kakay would be a big blow for Southampton, however, that blow has come at the best possible time for them. They would get at least some financial boost by losing him.

From a Southampton fan perspective, this move makes perfect sense and it's one that Will Still should absolutely pursue.

Kakay is still young and malleable, but his best position is through the centre of midfield. Since the Saints will lose key players here, it's just one way they can futureproof the centre of the park.
