Currently, it's all smiles and faces among Saints fans, who are enjoying the cheeky teases going on in the Southampton dressing room. But while the Wrexham matchday has united everyone on the surface, is something going differently behind the scenes?
It wasn't long ago that rising star Tyler Dibling suddenly disappeared from the limelight, ultimately ending far away from the opening matchday squad. And while the Saints fans tumble in the chaos, they are in for a bigger mess of a situation regarding another prodigy talent.
He's soon-to-depart Saints winger Samuel Edozie. Yet, interestingly, in his case, a prolonged transfer delay is causing the club much more trouble than the idea of his exit itself.
Edozie's reconsideration worsens Southampton's transfer chaos
Though feeling near the completion of his transfer some time ago, Edozie's change of mind has Southampton back to square one, if not behind. And now they are put on hold until the onset of next week, watching Edozie finalise a destination between Strasbourg and a Belgian return in Club Brugge.
Recently, SaintsExtra clarified Edozie's stance on a move, quoting: "Sam Edozie is deliberating over whether to move to Strasbourg or Club Brugge, with a decision expected in the next 24 hours — the French side have an agreement with Southampton, while the Belgian side currently do not."
Now, nothing can be better than if Edozie reaches a transfer resolution within the deadline, but if that doesn't happen, Saints are in for a lengthy wait.
That's because, should it happen otherwise, it's simple that the deal has broken somewhere. Either Strasbourg have grown impatient with Edozie's delay, or the 22-year-old is still to figure out where his heart is, at Club Brugge opportunity, or a desire still fuels him enough to don and contribute in a Saints shirt.
But, in any case, if all mess is speculated to be resolved into a permanent transfer by tomorrow, then it should. Otherwise, Edozie owes an explanation to the fans as to what's behind the scenes reality, that is, taking so long to reach a transfer conclusion.
Feels harsh to say, but seems like the best Saints talents are burning their bridges with the fans themselves. Hopefully, the saga will eventually end better than how it's currently speculated to.
