Southampton shows ambition in tapping into the potential of promotion winner Josuha Guilavogui's brother, Morgan Guilavogui, to strengthen their attacking ranks.
It's been a long time since Saints heard of Pierce Charles' links, and safe to say, the rumour's far beyond over. Well, for a chunk of fans, they dodged a bullet in Pierce's signing after his recent displays, but for the rest, Shea's brother remains a future option worth consideration.
Now, not siding with any opinion, but even the most hardcore Saints fans bought into the idea of pursuing Pierce to replace Bazunu earlier this summer. To the extent that some would've pondered if a missing German experience felt the only reason to deny his signing.
And that's self-explanatory for the ample trust the Saints board has vested in German division talents this summer.
Guess what? That speculation is proving true as Southampton are on the verge of striking another opportunity on a Bundesliga talent. Well, after moving past the idea of recruiting Championship hero Shea Charles' brother, the Saints consider investing in promotion winner Josuha Guilavogui's brother, Morgan Guilavogui.
Recently, Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Southampton's plans, quoting: "Southampton open talks with RC Lens for Morgan Guilavogui with negotiations underway. No agreement on fee yet but talks on."
Saints must rethink their Morgan Guilavogui plans once more
Having been on loan to FC St. Pauli last season, Morgan Guilavogui emerged as the side's top scorer, being key to helping them stay up. Additionally, having been a part of Will Still's former Lens roster, the winger's transfer can go through without much obstruction.
Honestly, on paper, it feels more than an exciting deal, but shouldn't Southampton ask themselves "the need" before proceeding on him? Because with Ryan Fraser's resurgence and Jay Robinson's promising season start, there's hardly a spot left to cover up front.
Agreed, that in a lengthy Championship spell, backups are a must. But preparing a 27-year-old to fall back in precedence to younger stars feels a disgrace to both Guilavogui as well as the Saints' resources. And not to forget, that this discussion extends while neglecting a must-do recruitment at the back.
Still, should Southampton decide to put pen to paper for Morgan Guilavogui, let's hope the signing turns out well. Who knows, he can be the recruit we didn't know we needed.
