Francis Benali highlights Southampton's past poor transfer recruits with the cases of misfired signings, Paul Onuachu and Sulemana amidst Mateus Fernandes' big move rumours.
Yesterday, Southampton were stunned to know the latest Paul Onuachu offer. Having already cut down their valuation, there's no way they can respect a €4m fee for their Premier League top scorer.
But honestly, the Saints and especially Paul Onuachu are to be blamed for this, too. Had the forward been even slightly consistent in his Saints spell, Trabzonspor wouldn't have thought of offering this meagre amount.
Still, if Onuachu's case has made the supporters miserable, his attacking counterpart, Sulemana's tenure has been a pain point for the fans ever since his arrival.
After all, no matter what the conditions, Sulemana's Southampton spell can't be called anything more than a total flop for his €22m price.
Thankfully, while Southampton's on-the-front player sale rumours have had the fans happy recently, club legend Francis Benali has finally addressed this issue that needed to be raised.
Benali pinpoints Southampton's transfer window reality to the fans
Recently, discussing Matheus Fernandes' upcoming departure, which will bag a massive transfer fee for Southampton, Benali said: "For every Mateus Fernandes and Romeo Lavia, we have signed a Kamaldeen Sulemana or Paul Onuachu. Not every transfer will work, but we seem to have had more failures than success stories in recent years."
What's more concerning? Onuachu and Sulemana's case has been £40m down the drain alone when leaving out cases of Ross Stewart and other failed attack recruits.
Like it or not, but these transfer failures piling up in Southampton's forward line isn't a coincidence, given their poor scattergun approach.
After all, having seen Romeo Lavia and Mateus Fernandes' cases within years, we are yet to witness a success story for their forwards. And with the focus concentrated on defensive talent recruits like Joshua Quarshie, this issue isn't improving any soon.
Let's see if, after multiple transfer misfires upfront, Southampton can turn the tide in this summer transfer window.
