Don Goodman believes Leicester's likely points deduction should be enough to turn away ex-Saints target Steven Gerrard from taking charge.

Let's be honest, no Southampton fan would have been able to control bursting into laughter after the recent Chris Wilder Leicester update. After all, who would have thought the Foxes would stoop so low as to start considering direct help from their rivals?

But if you have been following the Leicester City managerial saga for some time now, you would know it hasn't been new at all.

Firstly, missing out on Russell Martin, then on Danny Rohl and now looking on for ex-Saint Wilder, Leicester has had Southampton fans amused throughout this summer. And what's even more interesting is that the Foxes want to repeat this pattern of shame.

Saints laugh as Leicester set for another setback in Steven Gerrard

That's because Leicester now turn to former Saints managerial target, Steven Gerrard. Needless to say, the club is tipped to miss this transfer opportunity too.

Now, losing on a transfer race hasn't been new even for Southampton, but the way Leicester has been slammed to forget about signing Gerrard would leave all Saints supporters laughing uncontrollably.

Recently, Championship pundit Don Goodman dismissed all Steven Gerrard to Leicester rumours, saying: "On top of that, Gerrard would be asking himself if Leicester City an attractive job. There is a possible points deduction looming over them, no doubt there will be a massive overhaul of the playing squad, with lots of their best players wanting to leave."

While a likely point cut for Leicester has come at their financial breaches, it could be the best thing for Southampton in a while.

Noticeably, for Wilder who suffered a 2-point deduction with Sheffield last season, a potential deduction has been a key reason to sideline Leicester's role. And now, a similar thing will happen with Steven Gerrard too.

What's further in store for the Saints? With Leicester nowhere near a managerial appointment soon, the Foxes are tipped to get cost on a lot of preparation time for the Championship. Needless to say, the longer, the better it would be in Southampton's favour.

It's safe to say, that Southampton has been lucky enough to gain an undeniable advantage over their promotion rivals Leicester. Hopefully, the Saints exploit this opportunity to rule out a fierce push from the Foxes, unlike their last Championship stint.
