Last week, Southampton completed the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, which was a statement of their ambitions to stay in the Premier League after the end of this season. Coming on the back of consecutive defeats in the first two matches, signing a quality goalkeeper was the priority to try to keep more clean sheets in the league. Further, Ramsdale has proven his quality with Arsenal and Sheffield United in the English top flight.

Although Southampton aren't in a similar situation as compared to Arsenal, Ramsdale will be familiar with the aim and goals at the St. Mary's Stadium this season. The 26-year-old has been one of the best goalkeeper in the league in terms of making saves and keeping more clean sheets. In his first Southampton match, Ramsdale made three big saves however, couldn't keep a clean sheet due to two defensive mistakes on the first two goals which gave Brentford the momentum to take the three points from the match.

Now, manager Russell Martin has shared his opinion on Ramsdale, saying,

"I think he's brilliant with it the ball. Some of the passes he picked out today were fantastic. So I think he's going to be a brilliant signing for us. He gives us experience in the Premier League which we don't have a huge amount of."

Southampton's team doesn't have much Premier League experience apart from Jan Bednarek, Kyle Walker Peters and Adam Lallana. Therefore, they have struggled while facing Premier League teams and hence, by signing Ramsdale, the Saints will improve overall in the coming matches. Also, Southampton should create chances from their midfield rather than their build up play from the defence, which has resulted in several misplaced passes as well as goals conceded.
