In this transfer window, Southampton completed the massive signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a transfer fee of £25 million, after they couldn't sign Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow. Recently, in the 3-1 away defeat to Brentford, new signing, Aaron Ramsdale made his Saints debut, where he made a few saves however, conceded three goals which came from defensive mistakes inside their own half. In the first half, Southampton were playing good and were decent at defending chances, with Taylor Harwood Bellis, Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens keeping the score at 0-0.
However, with only a few minutes remaining in the first half, Southampton misplaced a pass from the defence and Brentford took an attempt on goal, which was saved by Ramsdale but the rebound came to Bryan Mbuemo, who put Brentford ahead with the opening goal of the match. Southampton went into half time behind 1-0 after a defensive mistake in an otherwise decent performance. This mistake was repeated again in the second half as the Saints again gave away possession inside the box and Brentford star Bryan Mbuemo scored another goal, giving the home side a 2-0 lead.

Southampton hadn't scored a goal in their first two matches, thus, the third defeat was highly likely when Brentford went up 2-0. Minutes later, Brentford scored again as Wissa found the back of the net after being unmarked by the Southampton defence. Thus, the Saints conceded three goals and faced defeat again in the third matchday.
Speaking about Ramsdale's debut, former Manchester City goalkeeper and Premier League winner, Joe Hart said,
"Three minutes in, Harwood-Bellis and Bednarek believe they can create the extra man with Ramsdale who just joined. It is relentless to the point that Ramsdale tries one long even though he has options. "
- Joe Hart
Throughout the match, Southampton's defence made a lot of mistakes, otherwise Aaron Ramsdale performed decent in his Saints debut. His passing and saves were great, however, the defence needs to perform better in order to keep a clean sheet in the upcoming matches.
