In the summer transfer window, Southampton made a huge signing by bringing Aaron Ramsdale in a £25 million move from Arsenal. This move was a huge addition for the Saints who wanted a better Premier League goalkeeper with a lot of experience that will be valuable for Southampton in their attempt to avoid relegation this season. The 26-year-old made his Southampton debut in a 3-1 defeat against Brentford and despite conceding three goals, made a lot of huge saves in that match.

In the Manchester United match, which was his second match for the Saints and his first home fixture at the St. Mary's Stadium, Ramsdale again gave an impressive performance but the Red Devils scored thrice again taking advantage of Southampton’s underwhelming defensive display after missing the penalty in the first half. Recently, Southampton had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town as they conceded a last minute equaliser which denied Ramsdale his first clean sheet for the Saints after making two massive saves throughout the match.

Recently, manager Russell Martin analysed Ramsdale’s first three Southampton games and heaped praise on the former Arsenal goalkeeper, saying,

"He’s a top goalkeeper. He’s played three games and I don’t know how he’s conceded three goals.

It’s not fair on him really. The stuff he does with the ball at his feet, the decisions he make, help us as a group and as a team."

Moreover, unlike Ramsdale's first two matches, this time the defence looked reliable for a large part of the match but couldn't keep away Kieran McKenna's Ipswich Town from taking a point from this fifth Premier League matchday. In the next match, Southampton will face Bournemouth and will want to take the three points from the match to build up on their recent impressive displays after the international break.
