Ally McCoist puts Southampton icon Matt Le Tissier's genius in parallel with the Greatest of All Time Lionel Messi.
Recently, knowing about Oriol Romeu's Barcelona situation would have dampened the Saints fans' spirits who would hope for him to continue there. And given that it comes right after Semedo rivalling Walker-Peters' transfer, the fans have seen a strained relationship with the Catalan club.
Yet, despite the recent fallout with the Spanish giants, St. Mary's can't be ungrateful to Barcelona for their icon Matt Le Tissier's comments.
Be it first Pep Guardiola or then Xavi, Barcelona legends have always held Le Tissier in high regard, time and again. But if listening to these high praises hasn't made the Saints enough proud, the recent parallels between Le Tissier and Barca's GOAT Lionel Messi would surely appease them.
Le Tissier compared to Leo Messi for his extraordinary scoring abilities
Interestingly, discussing with TalkSport, legendary Rangers figure Ally McCoist put Le Tissier's talent right up there with Leo Messi. McCoist commented: "Le Tiss? Ridiculous, ridiculous. I think he is up there with the likes of [Lionel] Messi in terms of great goals."
Honestly, for the Saints fans who have grown up watching Le Tissier's phenomenal play, this would clearly be far from any overstatement. But to the majority of supporters, this might be somewhat difficult to believe.
Well, but that's not for Le Tiss's ability being any inferior, instead because there's no estimate of how much he would have achieved at a European giant.
After all, being brought up in discussions with Leo Messi, who has seen every possible achievement in the sport, it demands European excellence straight up. And that's why, despite Le Tissier being a god-figure to the Saints, a good majority of fans may not buy into the idea of his parallels with Messi directly.
Instead, this Messi comparison may feel like a consolation prize from Rangers who have brought in ex-Southampton boss Russell Martin ahead of the next season.
Anyway, above all, having had a legendary player in Matt Le Tissier, who still takes time to guide them, is a blessing that no Saints fan can deny. Hopefully, the club's relationship only grows strength to strength with the best player St. Mary's has ever seen.
