Russell Martin is pushing to bring Abu Kamara's attacking talents to the Scottish top-flight which was one of his unfulfilled dreams at Southampton.
It feels weird to recall, but almost fifteen days ago, Southampton were an official offer away from signing Portsmouth icon Asmir Begovic. Glad, that it hasn't come to fruition but Saints fans would be more stressed for the derby if they were going to start with a familiar rival face in their lineup.
What's incredible is, this ain't something new to Southampton and in fact, there still remains a rather fringe member in Still's squad who holds past ties with the Pompeys. Coincidentally, it's another shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu who went from being a loan player there to a permanent Saints star within the same window.
And this ex-Portsmouth representation might have increased at St. Mary's had a last season approach not fallen flat. As reflected by the Football League World, Southampton's then gaffer Russell Martin was enthusiastic to work with Abu Kamara who was coming on the back of a mind-blowing Portsmouth stint.
Martin won't be blamed for adding city rival's star at Rangers
Perhaps, the fans might have disapproved of that swoop early on and Martin too, moved on to work for the eventual dismal season.
But, think about it, there's no stopping Martin from testing his advances again for Kamara because Southampton fans won't judge him now that he's not here. In the words of Sky Sports, the transfer groundwork has also begun: "Rangers are weighing up a move for Hull City winger Abu Kamara".
Elsewhere, this news only rubs more salt into Samuel Edozie's wounds, whose Rangers dream is escalating towards a harsh reality check.
Maybe, Southampton's no bargain pricing is distancing Martin from Edozie but they are doing the best they can and can't be called out for it.
