Xavi praises Saints icon Matt Le Tissier's creative prowess, which must remind fans of Tyler Dibling's blunder of not picking the legend in his 5-a-side team.
It's been a few weeks since Tyler Dibling recklessly dropped Saints all-time great Matt Le Tissier from his best 5-a-side Saints team. And while this blunder caused a huge reaction from fans at that time, the discontent has only grown further now.
That's because a recent mention of Matt Le Tissier's brilliance has just reopened the discussions.
And all due to Barcelona icon Xavi's praise of Le Tissier's playstyle. Despite being one of the very distinguished to have won a World Cup and Champions League, the Spanish midfielder held the Saints legend as his role model.
But while Xavi was very much into Le Tissier's overall game, the latter's ability to cut through tight spaces always amazed Xavi the most.
As quoted by Planet Football(via Give Me Sport), Xavi talked of Le Tissier, saying: "His talent was simply out of the norm. He could simply dribble past seven or eight players but without speed – he just walked past them. For me he was sensational."
Saints fans have every right to be angry with Tyler Dibling
With this statement, Xavi has joined former teammate and manager, Pep Guardiola, in rating Le Tissier as one of the former football greats. And that's why, Saints fans have every right to get back at Dibling's previous selection.
After all, being his countryman, how can he not name the icon, especially given he is one of the brightest names to fill in his role?
Not to forget, Dibling's career start has been surprisingly similar to Le Tissier's, be it in terms of his positional preference or Saints' beginnings. Although he has an advantage in his national team potential, Dibling must follow idols like the club legend so, as not to get off track.
Safe to say, Dibling's mistake falls far from being easily excused. Potentially, a brilliant Championship season that secures promotion can help the youngster make amends. But will Dibling be able to do it? We will see.
