Southampton's temporary signing David Brooks has been drawn into the Championship best player debates which will leave the fans puzzled.
Similar to the Premier League, the Championship also has multiple big name performers but their ranking is intriguingly harder to do. For a simple reason called promotion, which can either set second division stars up for success or make them leave that goal altogether for a brief while.
Whatever the case may be, a loan player getting world class shouts is pretty much unheard of in terms of Championship standards. Even then, the Southampton fans are watching these praises unfold for their ex-winger David Brooks.
In his own words, the Football League World quoted Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy showering compliments on Brooks: "The only thing that does concern me is the players that we're used to being linked with as a club, so players like David Brooks, Louie Barry, [Kaine] Kesler-Hayden, these sort of top-end Championship players that we would have been linked with in the past seem to be slipping away at the moment."
Brooks yet to deliver a star-making Championship season
To some extent, the Welshman is becoming a prized second-tier asset due to his two promotion medals but his scoring tally isn't that praiseworthy for a forward entering into his prime years.
Further, Brooks was tipped to lead his nation's right flank during the final playing years of legendary Saint Gareth Bale. However, Tottenham's silverware star Brennan Johnson has made that position his own leaving Brooks falling down the pecking order at both his club and country.
Hence, he is far from a statement reinforcement who can single-handedly help in the Premier League reaching cause. Instead, the 27-year-old can fill crucial gaps in the midfield which often brings a night-and-day's improvement into any lineup's playstyle.
Previously, Ruben Selles and David Brooks didn't cross paths at St. Mary's but will that be possible in the Blades dressing room, Let's see.
