Southampton's unsung promotion hero lined up for playoff-hopefuls move

Underrated promotion-winning Saint David Brooks has emerged as a favourite to fetch an ambitious Championship transfer at playoffs-favourites West Brom.

Though the Championship falls under second-tier football, taking the Premier League leap from there requires consistent efforts from the entire squad. Now, the ones with consistent performances and better scoring numbers all year deservingly get the large share of applauses and there's nothing wrong with it.

But that doesn't imply that a bunch of brief cameo displays should always go underrated and unnoticed. At least, that level of fan-judgment doesn't happen at Southampton, then be it a loan player arriving from city rivals camp.

And who better than Bournemouth's out-of-favour attacker David Brooks to admit the St. Mary's support time and again? Despite knowing that he wasn't the promising player he was before his lengthy injuries, the 27-year-old never shied away from giving his best in every minute played in the Saints shirt.

A reason that made him Russell Martin's wildcard attacking backup to cover for any player absences in the final third.

Brooks may rejoin the Premier League jump mission again

Yet, even that brisk stint didn't lift his benchwarmer Premier League status and it wouldn't be surprising if he agreed to return to the rigorous Championship scenery again. As far as early speculations are concerned, the Saints could find themselves welcoming him as an opponent, maybe as a promotion challenger too.

According to the Football League World, Brooks could feature in West Brom's colours to lead their narrowly missed playoff charge.

If you remember, Armstrong and Brooks were once the difference makers for Southampton in the semi-final ties against the Baggies. This year so far, Armstrong has joined forces with West Brom and Brooks could also find himself starting games there albeit not with his striker teammate anymore.

That's why football transfers can be unpredictable at times, still, let's hope Brooks gets that move to fulfil his playing time ambitions.
