Southampton fans are delighted with the recent Joel Piroe rumours but nothing will come out of it if they finished behind Leicester City in approaching with an opening bid.
With the past six promotion winners consecutively falling down to the Championship, Southampton and multiple other non-Premier League sides are assuming that the current trio will also fall flat in front of the present top-flight competition.
Now, this is an opportunistic transfer scenario as they can start luring game-changers from those relegated clubs to their own lineup's benefit. In fact, the Saints must have begun the shortlisting part for Leeds United's hitman Joel Piroe.
Not expecting him to be on that secret striker move but why waste time when the competitors are also following the saga closely from the wings.
The reason for that is division rivals Leicester City, whom EFL Analysis are backing to steal a transfer march on Piroe.
Saints hoping Piroe's scenario turns differently than Shankland
I know, they are ahead of schedule from their Sean Dyche presentation but Southampton fans must note that the deal is practically a closed chapter. As such, Leicester can catch pace on their signings front where they have remained inactive for a month.
Plus, the St. Mary's faithful has seen the Lawrence Shankland transfer race heat up within a matter of days, thus, there's no stopping an exact momentum repeat with Piroe.
And sticking to the theme, Rangers are still lying in the mix for the 29-year-old and if they name-dropped Piroe in front of Russell Martin, that might be game over for everyone else including Southampton. Simply put, Piroe might be falling down the Leeds pecking order but he has no shortage of destinations as things stand.
On top of that, he must be encouraged by witnessing Southampton's thinning attacking depth in particular and let's hope this mutual preference grows stronger day by day instead of dimming abruptly.
