Ross Stewart believes he and Jay Robinson can lead the forward line for Southampton next season.
Admit it or not, despite no signings up front so far, Southampton have built the hype for their next forward line brilliantly. As if the unforeseen comeback of Ross Stewart late in the season wasn't enough, the club has teased up different options time and again.
To the extent that though Stewart can be trusted from one end, there lies uncertainty about who would partner up with him. While names like Shankland and Ioannidis have been linked, the emergence of a young Saint has now added another twist to the selection puzzle.
In a surprise twist that no Saints fan would have seen coming, rising prodigy Jay Robinson may lead the Saints attack alongside Stewart next season.
That's because, Stewart recently recounted his first experience starting alongside Robinson, hoping to build on this linkup further.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Stewart talked of Robinson, saying: "Really impressed. I thought when he came on in games as well, he was excellent. I’m delighted to see him get his first start as well for us. Hopefully, it's a partnership that you end up seeing a bit more."
Stewart-Robinson duo feels exciting but is one for the future
Honestly, fans will definitely appreciate a senior in Stewart praising a teen talent in Robinson, and pushing him for the first-team challenge. Still, at the same time, hardly any supporter expected for this duo to succeed together at St. Mary's.
It's because both Stewart and Robinson lack Southampton experience, making a coinciding fit in the same lineup intriguing. And the presence of alternative options in their roles makes the possibility even more difficult.
Recently, knowing of loanee Samuel Edozie's Anderlecht spell, Saints fans must've been very excited to see the winger next season. Needless to say, with Edozie likely ahead of Robinson in the pecking order, the former is expected for more opportunities next season.
Well, that's why, though Stewart and Robinson leading the charge sounds exciting, it's one for the future as of now. But, will Ross Stewart continue beyond next season, given his contract expires in 2026? That's a question again.
