According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Southampton are currently in talks with their potential Russell Martin replacement, Danny Rohl.
Southampton are wasting no time in replacing Russell Martin. Due to the Saints waiting until the busiest period of the season to part ways with their former manager, they find themselves in a position of needing to be proactive in their hunt for his replacement.
Southampton have kept their options open. However, despite all the names which have been thrown around, there has always been one man at the top. Indeed, it's now been revealed that Southampton are in talks with their number one option.
Southampton are in talks with Russell Martin replacement Danny Rohl
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Sky Sports journalist who specialises in all things related to German football, Southampton are currently in talks with Danny Rohl about appointing him as the new Southampton manager.
Plettenberg revealed this news in the early hours of this morning. Therefore, it could be a big day behind the scenes at Southampton, as they hope to appoint Danny Rohl as the new head coach.
Of course, these things take plenty of time. Despite Rohl having history at Southampton, it will not be entirely easy to pinch him away from Sheffield Wednesday. After all, the German coach is under contract at Wednesday, where he is performing brilliantly this season.
Nevertheless, even despite his incredible progress at Wednesday, nobody can deny that managing Southampton is a step-up. We mean this as no disrespect to Wednesday, who have done an incredible job at developing our young player Shea Charles this season.
We can only hope that if Rohl does become the new manager of Southampton, it doesn't act to Wedneday's detriment. His impact there will surely stretch beyond his departure, if it happens to be the case.
Rohl is not the only option on Southampton's managerial shortlist, it must be said. There are other options, such as Kasper Hjulmand. Nevertheless, it does appear that Danny Rohl is the likeliest man to replace Russell Martin at Southampton.
