Southampton in no hurry to hire new manager which can come to haunt them

Saints director Johannes Spors reveals that he will take his time to hire a new manager, which may delay summer transfer business at St. Mary's.

Recently, the Championship delivered the verdict that Southampton fans had been waiting for. Yes, within the next 2 weeks, the summer transfer window commences for both the Premier League and Championship clubs.

Sounds like a tailor-made opportunity for the Saints to cash big in the June 1-June 10 period, doesn't it? Especially given the ton of attractive offers they have.

Yet, the club may bottle its biggest chance itself again. That's because the Saints lack a new manager who expresses clearly what players he wants and what not in his new Southampton project.

Additionally, with the fans demanding Simon Rusk's dismissal, the club faces the fear of heading into the transfer window without a manager. And this possibility hasn't been helped by the recent Johannes Spors' claim.

Spors gives scare to fans with delayed appointment hint

As quoted by the Daily Echo, shedding light on the managerial hunt progress, Spors said: "I think I’m in a very comfortable situation where I have time for this (the manager search)."

Now, if Southampton had a single task of a managerial appointment, the comment wouldn't have bothered the fans much. Yet considering the massive squad overhaul they need to complete, too, Spors' statement does everything but comfort the fans.

What's frustrating further? Southampton's to-do checklist contains more, with an even more complicated job to quickly decide on the future of the various loanees they departed in the season.

But if the situation wasn't scary enough already, remember what happened the last time Southampton undertook this massive task ahead of a new season.

In the preseason of the 2023/24 campaign, the Saints had lost a gem of an icon in Ward-Prowse and should something in it repeat again, Southampton would hit rock-bottom this time.

Well, all this must make us Saints fans respect Pulis' Ipswich observation even more. Can Southampton fight back soon? Let's see.
