Southampton are planning to loan out Quarshie to their sister club Goztepe which comes as an out of the box thought, given, the Saints need more depth in their centre-back ranks.

Today, it's been more than a week since Southampton finalised the addition of Joshua Quarshie. And during this timeframe, the fans have started to draw parallels between Quarshie and mid-season signing Joachim Kayi Sanda.

Consequently, the general feeling is that the 20-year-old German will also be tasked with the U21 duties and then will be fastracked into the first team, similar to Kayi Sanda's progress. Plus, with the relatively longer Championship schedule in mind, Quarshie might be placed into rotation right from the get go.

So far, so good but the Saints may opt to work things out differently with Quarshie.

Quarshie's departure will bring more centre-back overhead for the Saints

According to a report from Yeni Asir (via Sport Witness), Southampton are toying with the idea of handing out the centre back on a season-long loan to their sister club Goztepe.

As a defensive prodigy, overseeing a few loan spells isn't bad but it's a completely puzzled stance from Southampton. Amidst the uncertainties looming over Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens futures, thinning out on defensive help isn't wise.

And as far as Ronnie Edwards successful loan is concerned, that was done with Southampton's Premier League commitments in mind. Else, it would've been almost impossible for Edwards to get to speed in the top flight quickly.

So, what's now? A sensible option still remains to reconsider Quarshie's loan plan otherwise, a few more defenders will have to be brought in the door.

It feels surprising to note, but Southampton may actually be back to square one in terms of transfers, where some progress has already been made. Anyway, let's see how this new defensive line shapes up to be.
