Southampton have completed their first signing ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window/

Following a successful loan which contributed to their exceptional form towards the end of the 2025/26 season, Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz left with a high stock.

But the Saints have tied him down to a permanent deal, completing the £6.5-7m signing on a four-year contract, despite interest from other clubs.

It’s an exceptional coup, and one that shows the Saints mean business this summer.

Saints sign Daniel Peretz

In an official club statement, the club wrote, “Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the permanent transfer of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract.”

Peretz played 26 times for the Saints in 2025/26, finishing on the losing side just twice, once on his league debut and the other in the FA Cup semi-final against eventual winners Manchester City.

On completion of his signing, Daniel Peretz told club media, “I’m super excited. For the last few months this was my home and we had so many good times, and also some tense times, but even in the last few weeks with how we stayed together you could really feel this home environment.

“That was, for me, the dealbreaker. Yes, it is my dream to play in the Premier League and on the highest stages in the world, but a bigger dream for me is to be there with Southampton. I really believe that we can be there and achieve that.”

The 25-year-old’s love for the club is clear to see, despite only playing on the south coast of England for four months in a loan deal previously.

A statement signing

Technical Director Johannes Spors spoke excitedly on the deal, in his first public words since Spygate, “We knew about Daniel’s qualities when we signed him on loan in January, and his impact on the team was clear for everybody to see. He has a confidence in his own ability that transmits to the players in front of him.

“I had several conversations with Daniel after our season came to an end. It was clear throughout these discussions that he remained committed to us, even with other options on the table. We are delighted to welcome him back to Southampton on a long-term contract and determined to build on the successes we experienced together last season.”

The biggest signing that Southampton needed to complete this summer is already done. With the prospect that error-prone Gavin Bazunu would have to be number one going into pre-season, getting Peretz in was essential.

Peretz played on Wednesday for his international side Israel, and now has the summer off until reporting to Staplewood for pre-season. It’s set to be an exciting window for Saints fans, with the club doing their best to move on from the Spygate drama which hung over them for weeks.
