Southampton player comes forward to apologise to fans and it’s not Leo Scienza

Leo Scienza was one of the first Southampton players to acknowledge Saints supporters after their playoff expulsion was confirmed, and he's now been joined by a teammate.

Southampton fans will feel bitterly let down by their side's spying antics, which have resulted in their beloved team being dumped out of the Championship playoffs.

If reports are anything to go by, too, the Southampton playing personnel will also be enraged by developments, as they were allegedly not told the full extent of what had gone on behind the scenes with their team's espionage tactics.

You can hardly blame an onslaught of players wanting to pack their bags and ditch the South Coast this summer, after having their Premier League dreams cruelly cut short, with Leo Scienza one of many star performers last season who thoroughly deserve a shot at top-flight glory.

While he will have an eye on the exit door, he was also one of the first Southampton players to take to social media to console the disgruntled St Mary's masses.

Scienza's heartfelt social media post

Scienza will look back on the 2025/26 season with extremely mixed feelings.

While it has ended in unprecedented heartbreak, the Brazilian will know he can keep his own head firmly high, as the 27-year-old made his transition from Heidenheim, to the Championship, look like a breeze.

Picking up a blistering seven goals and ten assists from 37 second-tier appearances, Scienza looks as if he will have an array of Premier League clubs to choose from this summer, as he bids farewell to St. Mary's amid Spygate, with Aston Villa and Leeds United rumoured to be keen.

He hasn't just decided to go AWOL on social media as a result of his current club's crisis, though, and his desire to move away, with Scienza reaffirming his status in the Saints' good books with an honest and frank message to supporters.

Noting his obvious "disappointment, anger, sadness" about how the season ended, he has also expressed how "sorry" he feels to Saints fans, who have been denied a magical trip to Wembley to see out a sensational campaign.

Wherever he does moves onto next, Scienza will hold a fond place in Southampton fans' hearts.

He isn't the only Saints player to take to social media to voice their honest thoughts, now that the season has come to a crashing halt, with one of Scienza's attacking teammates breaking their silence, as well.

Scienza's teammate who has offered his own social media message

While it is likely a given that Scienza will be snapped up by a Premier League club, Southampton fans might be expecting the likes of Kuryu Matsuki to stay rooted at St. Mary's.

Scoring four goals this season just gone, from a limited 20 appearances in league action, the one-time FC Tokyo forward could be propelled into the first-team picture, now that the likes of the Brazilian are upping and leaving.

However, based on the tone of his own earnest message to Saints fans, the 23-year-old hotshot could be off, too, with Matsuki concluding with a heartfelt "thank you very much for everything".

Singling out the Saints supporters as a major force as to how they managed to sneak into the playoffs, Matsuki - much like Scienza - will be loved even more now by the St. Mary's faithful for his emotive response to the mess unfolding.

This beautiful bond between player and fanbase should have ended in Premier League promotion being secured.

Instead, the likes of Matsuki and Scienza will likely just walk away in the summer, caught up in the feeling of what could have been, if it wasn't for their team's skulduggery.
