Southampton's £11m loss-making star won't hurry Premier League U-turn

Former Southampton attacker Moussa Djenepo is a Leeds United target for months but the Premier League outfit has been hinted to wait for a while before presenting their offers.

In January, Southampton fans were left speechless spotting ex-player Charly Alcaraz in an Everton shirt. The Argentine midfielder was one of the Saints who kicked a ball in the first night's Newcastle defeat, so, watching him steadying a Premier League club's midfield after he had left European football, wasn't on the fans' bucket list.

But the one aspect that remained the same was Alcaraz's scoring output. Further, he wasn't only handling the central attacking duties, but David Moyes readily deployed him on the left flank whenever he wished without witnessing a drop off in the 22-year-old's form.

Fine, that was one tough to swallow scenario for Southampton fans but the horrible part is, the misery can be repeated at some point in either July or August. Back in May, Leeds United were deservedly busy in their promotion and title winning party but they made their ambitions clear by shortlisting former Saints winger Moussa Djenepo in a couple of days itself.

Djenepo to Leeds has been put on lengthy hold

Now, Djenepo isn't the most goalscoring attackers out there and every Saints fan will admit it. But even elite Premier League fullbacks know his pace and trickery can't be dealt with ease, which might be the reason why Daniel Farke is so keen on him.

Otherwise, he is the same gaffer who criticised Cameron Archer for not scoring as usual which speaks volumes of him having a brilliant plan to get the best out of Djenepo. However, Farke will have to show patience because journalist Kevin Sauvage has insisted Djenepo isn't forcing his way out of the Belgian league as a free agent.

Hence, Leeds will have to fork out a decent paycheck, though not the £14m one Southampton paid only to receive roughly £3m in exchange a handful of years later. Will it work for Djenepo in the English top-flight at the second time of asking?

Most importantly, whether he will go un-relegated or it's a second Premier League drop waiting for him, Let's see.
