Trabzonspor's former striker Mehmet Yilmaz vouches for Onuachu's signing to his former club.
Like it or not, Paul Onuachu's Super Lig return saga is still prolonging and is in danger of not concluding once again. Especially after Trabzonspor's lowball €4m bid for the Nigerian forward.
Still, truth be told, while this recent offer must have frustrated Saints fans, it would have left them even more baffled. And rightly so, given the mixed reactions they have been receiving from the Turkish clubs' entourage all this while.
Not to forget, just a week ago, Trabzonspor's boss, Faith Tekke, had given his green light for Onuachu's club return. Yet, the club's meagre monetary response has failed to complement the same interest.
Thankfully, in this negotiation standoff between the Turkish club and Southampton, a former club forward has come to accelerate the deal again.
It's Trabzonspor's heroic striker Mehmet Yilmaz whose Paul Onuachu verdict is tipped to progress the player's transfer.
Mehmet Yilmaz comes to Southampton's Onuachu transfer rescue
Speaking to Gunebakis(via Inside Futbol), in an ironic tone, Yilmaz expressed: “You may pay €5m to €6m to names that you do not know what they will do and then have problems. Nobody should worry about Onuachu’s age. Onuachu should be the first transfer without a doubt.”
Honestly, this Yilmaz comment speaks loud of his concern for Trabzonspor, who missed a European spot for next season, but it may benefit Southampton instead.
For the Saints who have tried their best to depart Onuachu, Yilmaz's words can progress the deal from where boss Tekke's praise had left it.
Yet, it all depends on the club President in the end. In the past, we have seen Dogan play hardball forcing the most favourable stance for themselves, but shall it happen again, Southampton may back off this time.
That's because, having put their all for Onuachu's Trabzonspor reunion, they must not push their limits further. The 31-year-old is a tall and prolific striker, who may act as the perfect rotation player for Ross Stewart under Will Still.
But again, the summer transfer window has just begun and a deal is very much possible. Till then, let's wait for Trabzonspor's next action in this Paul Onuachu transfer saga.
