Is Dortmund’s Emre Mor the right man for Southampton?
By Chris Hughes
Persistent rumours have linked with Saints with young Turk Emre Mor, and he could be exactly what Southampton need to improve their squad.
It’s common knowledge that the Saints have been slow to act this summer, with August arriving next week and only Jan Bednarek arriving so far this window.
However it’s also common knowledge that the club do their best business in the final weeks of the summer, with Oriol Romeu, Virgil van Dijk and record signing Sofiane Boufal all joining in the latter stages of the window.
However the Saints still need to press on with business, and one man who has been consistently linked with the club is youngster Emre Mor.
The deal would only be temporary as he would loaned from German giants Borussia Dortmund, but that doesn’t mean that the Saints shouldn’t make a play for the dynamic 20-year-old. In fact he could be exactly what they’re missing.
Outside of both Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal, the Southampton squad lacks some serious pace in the attacking third. Shane Long has lost a yard or two and you wouldn’t consider Manolo Gabbiadini or Dusan Tadic to be anything exceptional.

Therefore if both Redmond and Boufal start then the Saints don’t really have any serious pace that can come off the bench and cause trouble, meaning that void should be filled this summer.
In Mor, Southampton would have a young, talented forward who wouldn’t be expecting to start each and every game-week, but instead fill in for his more senior teammates.
The Turkish international would still get minutes on the pitch as part of an inevitable agreement with Dortmund, but it wouldn’t be a case of having to give him 90 minutes every week.
What’s more, the former FC Nordsjælland man is capable of both playing up front or down the wing, offering valuable versatility that the Southampton roster always lacks. In addition, signing him on a loan deal would prove a risk-free move as if he does struggle with the physicality of the league, he doesn’t have to stay beyond next summer.
With several of their main options like Yann Karamoh and Henry Onyekuru out of their reach for different reasons it means Southampton could soon be running out of options for a young, talented attacker to improve their squad.
