Southampton fans must keep an eye on Sheffield United's future decisions as one of them might see them employing former Saints staff Ruben Selles.

During this weekend, Ruben Selles saw another coaching job slamming shut with no success in store for him. Regardless, patience is said to be key in landing top managerial jobs and one of Selles' last season's statement performances could come to his aid.

To be clear, it's not about pulling off a couple of massive wins but instead dismantling a near perfect Sheffield United team. That was back during the winter transfer window, and the Blades know that it was only the beginning of their dip in form that snowballed for the worse towards the end of the season.

Hence, it goes without saying that Selles has some admirers on the Sheffield board and this appreciation is tipped to turn into a transfer soon.

Selles can face Southampton for the first time since leaving

According to the Sun, United is prepared to move on from their current manager Chris Wilder and is weighing up the idea of instating Selles in his place.

Hearing this, a vast majority of Southampton fans might be left in disbelief because Selles has hardly worked with in-form squads in his career. Thus, coming in the picture to guide a roster that barely needs minor tweaking is indeed, too good of a prospect which Selles must not snub if given a chance.

That's the important question because the report also name-dropped former Saints target Gary O'Neil as another frontrunner whom the Southampton faithful won't want to face next season, too. Even in the Premier League, he steered Wolves to a dominating three points over Southampton which makes the whole thought of defeating him with a talent-stacked Sheffield United lineup a daunting one.

At this stage, the best outcome for Southampton might be facing anyone but vastly experienced Premier League tacticians in the second-division, thus, let's hope Sheffield United either pick Selles or stays put with their current coach Wilder.
