Southampton fans will need time to forget the Lawrence Shankland transfer conclusion but Matt Le Tissier has immediately tipped him for peak success in the season.

Half a dozen weeks have sped past since Lawrence Shankland quashed all Southampton speculations to continue in Scotland. He had Saints fans hopes up for consecutive months and even spent days as a free agent but then pulled a rare reverse gear to confirm his Championship days aren't coming until at least next year.

Naturally, Southampton fans had their excitement dried up and wouldn't have reckoned that a Saints figure would bring a Shankland discussion again. Not least the honourable Matt Le Tissier of them all, who has come lavishing praises over the 29-year-old.

Firstly, Le Tissier didn't went assessing whether Shankland was right to snub St. Mary's or not. Neither he gave false hopes that Southampton are better off without the 29-year-old, because we all know where our current attack stands and it's not a charming sight.

Le Tissier holds Lawrence Shankland in Golden Boot regard

Actually, the Englishman was talking about Scottish football where the Saints faithful knows how many jibes Russell Martin is having to absorb. And for Shankland, he will share an evening with Martin in less than a month and Le Tissier won't be surprised if the former boosts his Golden Boot charge there as well.

As quoted by the Football Insider, Le Tissier said: "He's obviously going to be in and amongst the top scorers for the season."

Some heavy claims there, but Le Tissier's confidence arises from the Hearts attacker's scintillating season from just over twelve months ago, where he was the runaway winner with most goals. Plus, Martin should listen to this verdict on repeat when he starts organising his defensive unit to keep the Scotland international scoreless.
