Tonda Eckert could make two changes to his starting eleven, from the side that took the field at Carrow Road against Norwich City, to the one that will face Coventry City at home on Saturday lunchtime.
According to the Saints boss, Tom Fellows is available for selection again after recovering from a thigh injury that he sustained against his former club, West Bromwich Albion, at St Mary's.
Eckert gave no fresh updates on the availability of Ross Stewart, Shea Charles, Sam Edozie, or Damion Downs t must be assumed are all unavailable. Elias Jelert has returned to training this week but remains unavailable. Mads Roerslev is expected to return to training next week.
The performances of Cameron Bragg have caught the eye and he may be in contention for a surprise start on Saturday.
Southampton predicted lineup: (3-4-3)
Goalkeeper and Defenders

Goalkeeper - Gavin Bazunu: Bazunu's place in the squad is under the spotlight as the January transfer window approaches. His save percentage and crosses stopped (punched or caught) are the poorest in the championship. However, his distribution and calmness against the press is integral to the way that the Saints play out from the back under Eckert and his reflexes are superb.
Centre-Back - Taylor Harwood-Bellis: Harwood-Bellis was a colossus against Birmingham City earlier in the month but has dropped ever deeper in possession. He was poor at Carrow Road and has accepted a great deal of the responsibility for Saints defending inside the box.
Centre-Back - Joshua Quarshie: Nathan Wood has played in every game under Eckert and this would be a very big call for the boss to take. Wood has been on thin ice for a while and his performance against Norwich City should see him dropped from the starting line-up. Quarshie, on the other hand, has deputised well for Jack Stephens when called upon.
Centre-Back - Jack Stephens: The captain was not at fault for the defeat at Norwich and he has been pretty solid of late. Expect Stephens to start against Coventry.
Midfielders

Right Midfield - Tom Fellows: Saints fans will be delighted to see Tom Fellows return in the hybrid wing-back role, which he is making his own. One of the league's most effective dribblers, Fellows is an important player in Eckert's counter-attacking side. Ryan Fraser (feature image) is unlikely to challenge given his poor performance at Carrow Road.
Centre Midfield - Flynn Downes: Downes missed a sitter on Saturday when he should have put Southampton ahead in the opening few minutes. He is in the side to close down spaces and create turnovers. He did that job well again at Norwich but he is coming under pressure from Cameron Bragg for a place in the starting eleven.
Centre Midfield - Caspar Jander: Jander had his least effective game under Eckert in the match at Norwch on Saturday. A full week of recovery and preparation for Coventry should put that right. Expect Caspar to start.
Left Midfield - Ryan Manning: Manning continues to deliver in an attacking and dead-ball sense. Welington is better defensively and positionally so it will be interesting to see who Eckert opts for.

Forwards
Left Forward - Léo Scienza: A no-brainer if fit. Scienza is head and shoulders above the rest of the squad and could be the difference against the Sky Blues.
Centre Forward - Adam Armstrong: Despite missing a penalty at Carrow Road, Armstrong remains Southampton's best and only option up top. Cameron Archer shouldn't even be in the conversation and Damion Downs is still unfit.
Right Forward - Finn Azaz: The goals and assists dried up at Carrow Road and the Republic of Ireland international gave the ball away too often against Norwich. Defensively, Azaz has given Fellows very little protection. Azaz will start, but he needs to up his all-round game and reach the highest levels again.
