Russell Martin made some telling comments to the media. The Southampton boss laughed at the rumoured Man United transfer pursuit of Tyler Dibling.

Southampton are having a horrid season. Fans understandably feel disenfranchised with the club as the players are being forced to play in a way which has never aligned with the Saints.

However, despite all the shortcomings and failures so far this season, there are some positives to take. It's difficult to notice those positives when sat rock bottom of the table but there have been some breakthrough players.

One of those, without a doubt, is Tyler Dibling.

It has been reported over the last few weeks that Man United would like to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton. They are not alone in their pursuit, as clubs Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been thrown around.

However, Russell Martin refuses to entertain any deal. In fact, he outrightly mentioned the interest from Man United and laughed it off.

In his own words, Russell Martin said: "I was told some rumours about Man United [wanting to sign Tyler Dibling], one was a bid of £21m. I'm not sure you'll get his left foot for that."

So, it's pretty clear how highly Martin values Dibling. Now, we can essentially write off those former transfer rumours as false, especially in the sense that Southampton would accept £21m.

I, like many others, was always critical of the mooted £21m price tag. Considering how young Dibling is, it would be a real shame to lose him for that price. Thankfully, Martin aligns himself with this.

Dibling is under contract at the St Marys Stadium until 2027. So, the ball is truly in Southampton's court here. Martin further confirmed that the club is trying to offer Dibling a new contract.

Continuing, Martin said: "We have offered him a contract, a really good contract for someone his age. At the minute, I don't think his agent agrees, so that's where we're at. I think Tyler wants it done, I think Tyler's parents want it done, so we'll see how long that takes. There is an option. We can extend. I don't think we want to do that - we want to reward Tyler for his performances."

So, it's looking good from Southampton's perspective, in the sense that moves are being made. Let's just hope Dibling's agent stops being stubborn.
