Southampton fans have been posed a questionable comparison between former Saint Sam Amo-Ameyaw and returning loanee Samuel Edozie.

It's been a day since Southampton's Eastleigh win and the fans must have got an insight into what to expect from each Saint. While the initial reactions may be dull for flops like Ben Brereton, the supporters are buying into the potential this young Saints side possesses.

Most notably, the youthful legs of promising players like Samuel Edozie compensated for a "when will it end" kind of first-half show.

Despite arriving at halftime, Edozie's impactful cameo stole the spotlight. To the extent that the St. Mary's faithful might have had a trip down memory lane as if they were watching ex-Saint Amo-Ameyaw's brilliance last season.

In case you remember, Amo-Ameyaw had an excellent outing in Southampton's 2024 preseason win against Bordeaux, shining with a goal. However, looking back, it remains a dust of memories as the Saints forced apart ways with the talent this year.

Honestly, given Edozie's recent performance amidst his Club Brugge rumours, the player's case must feel like a replica of Amo-Ameyaw to the Saints fans. But instead of the obvious parallels, the fanbase has been posed with a tinkering comparison between the two youngsters.

Saints fans presented comparison between Amo-Ameyaw and Edozie

Recently, speaking to Football League World, fan pundit Martin Sanders went against the general notion, making an analogy that will not sit well with the fans. He said: "We also let Sam Amo-Ameyaw, I think Ameyaw is a better player than Edozie personally."

Now, there's no denying that letting go of Amo-Ameyaw has been a mistake on Southampton's part, but still, calling him ahead of Edozie feels off.

That's because Samuel Edozie, who possesses talent comparable to the level of Michael Obafemi, has been far more successful than Amo-Ameyaw in his first team career so far. And for that instance, his stats on the back of consecutive impressive spells speak the same.

Having ended the 2024/25 season with 10 goal contributions compared to Amo-Ameyaw's 5 goals and an assist, Edozie has proven to be a far more attacking threat than the ex-Saint.

Now, the difference in their appearances has been a reason, but Edozie's name clears on how he can fare better on the chances which Amo-Ameyaw couldn't grab at St. Mary's.

So, all in all, considering Amo-Ameyaw a nudge above Edozie makes little sense. However, one may not know if the fan pundit was attempting to bring on Edozie's best version with the comment, the way Shea Charles' previous criticism has worked wonders on him.
