Southampton admire 24-year-old goalkeeper who lost a final with Victor Wanyama

Southampton are eyeing Victor Wanyama's ex-teammate Jonathan Sirois as a candidate to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks.

Today's Wrexham penalty was quite a replica of Sadio Mane's feeble one on Friday. The results differed only because Gavin Bazunu wasn't the recipient of an underpowered strike, and accordingly, the 23-year-old had no clean sheet to show for the sweating and toiling he did near his box.

Oftentimes, Bazunu goes underrated like this at Southampton and nothing proved it much better than when he had to wait ten Championship games to keep things tidy for once.

No matter how much the fans will sugercoat it in the name of a win, an above average glovesman must aspire for at least two clean sheets in the same stretch. Bazunu will not be left out in the cold just now, but work has accumulated momentum in the background and Southampton have come up with a statistically better shot-stopper.

According to a report from TeamTalk, it's Major League Soccer's emerging star Jonathan Sirois.

Wanyama may have a say in Sirois to Southampton saga

Not a top league's journeyman like Bazunu, but Sirois consistently goes unbeaten in goal within a month or a handful of weeks. Plus, he got the privilege to start a Canadian Cup final with former Saints defensive lynchpin Victor Wanyama two years back, but that afternoon ended miserably for them.

Five months prior to now, Wanyama returned to help out his previous boss and he can be a valuable scout for Southampton about Sirois. If the 34-year-old is convinced the latter is ready for a bigger switch to England, then the Saints should look into a deal.

Holding for winter can give a bigger timeframe to the decision makers, as a potential Major League Soccer Cup run will come by then. Sirois will also get some handy vacation to recover and focus on the Championship, if Saints shortlist him for a joint first-choice role.
