The head-to-head stats overwhelmingly back Southampton to beat Wrexham

Southampton fans won't want the disruptive three-week international break to come into effect as their beloved Saints have been phenomenal across recent Championship matches.

Tonda Eckert's men still remain unbeaten at home this season in the second-tier, with back-to-back St. Mary's successes against Swansea City and Bristol City seeing the likes of Cyle Larin and Finn Azaz barely put a foot wrong in attack.

Indeed, Larin would grab a blistering three goals during the 3-1 and 4-1 victories over the Swans and Robins, while Azaz has continued to shine as an assist machine playing behind the potent Canadian.

Both players in question will swap the South Coast momentarily for their international teams across the break, with Eckert keeping his fingers very much crossed that both the crucial first teamers return back to Championship action unscathed, after lining up for Canada and the Republic of Ireland.

He will also be hopeful that one final win can be secured on the road at Wrexham, before the Championship hiatus begins, with Eckert already tasting success as Saints boss when travelling to the Racecourse Ground.

The German, the last time he was situated in the opposition dugout at the Racecourse, masterminded a slick 5-1 away win.

The South Coast visitors tore the Welsh hosts to shreds in April of this year, with Kuryu Matsuki and Flynn Downes setting the tone for the rest of the night with two goals inside the opening 22 minutes.

The aforementioned duo of Larin and Azaz would then pop up with two strikes, alongside the now departed Ross Stewart getting in on the goalscoring act, as Phil Parkinson's shellshocked Reds just couldn't handle the rampant nature of the Saints.

Eckert would love for a similar mauling to occur just before the lengthy break, with his free-flowing team bagging a very impressive 18 goals so far this season in the Championship. Only West Ham United have scored more, coming in at a mammoth 20 strikes.

They'll be fired up to pummel Parkinson and Co. again, as well, after the Wrexham social media account posted a comical nod to Spygate in the build-up to today's showdown.

Eckert didn't see the funny side of these antics when asked about the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney led video in the build-up to the trip to Wales, with this humourous post just giving Southampton even more fuel to pick up another convincing victory.

The head to head numbers suggest another Saints win

Southampton and Wrexham haven't regularly faced off against each other over the years.

Incredibly, the Red Dragons and Eckert and Co. have only butted heads five times across their respective histories, and Wrexham have only won one of these rare encounters.

Indeed, that win came about all the way back in 1974 in the FA Cup, as the Welsh side travelled to Southampton's old stadium, The Dell, and collected a slim 1-0 victory.

Since that matchup in 1974, it has been four straight wins for the South Coast titans, with Will Still even managing to get the better of Parkinson's side last season 2-1, before he was given the boot.

Wrexham will look at the Saints' indifferent away form this campaign, with Eckert's men drawing their last two away contests 1-1, for some crumbs of comfort.

But, on the contrary, Southampton clearly love playing the Red Dragons, and with the early season strugglers still licking their wounds after a horrible 6-0 defeat to West Ham, they will be nervous that they could be on the recieving end of another drubbing.

The form book does suggest they will have to swallow the bitter pill of another loss.
