All the Southampton players who have been picked for international duty so far

Several Southampton players have been selected for international duty as the Championship prepares for an elongated three-week break.

After the Saints clash with Wrexham in Wales on Saturday, there isn't a single league game for Tonda Eckert's men until the South Coast Derby falls on to the fixture calendar on the 11th of October.

That will be some way to break back into second tier action for the promotion chasers, as they entertain John Mousinho's Portsmouth in what will no doubt be a feisty match at St. Mary's.

In total, six Saints players have the great honour of representing their nations during this lull in Championship action, with their inspired form donning Southampton red and white seeing them gain international recognition.

Cyle Larin (Canada)

This is the least surprising call-up of them all, as Cyle Larin prepares to lead the line for his beloved Canada off the back of some unbelievable goalscoring exploits in England.

He has a ridiculous seven goals from seven games in the Championship so far this season and will be desperate to get one more strike against Wrexham, before September is up.

With 32 goals also under his belt for Canada, he is set to given the key to the city of Brampton - which is his birthplace - during the international reprieve, in what will be an emotional occasion for the 94-time Les Rouges striker.

Canada are set to play against Chile, Peru and United States in a hat-trick of friendly contests, with the 6-foot-2 menace very much raring to go in trying to add to his 32-goal tally.

There will be a slight worry that he could get injured, with the United States friendly match also coming just days before the huge tie with Pompey, but hopefully, he comes away from these matches injury-free.

Kuryu Matsuki (Japan)

Kuryu Matsuki, unlike Larin who is a Canada regular, has been handed his first-ever Japan call-up during the break to come.

This will be an overwhelmingly proud moment for the ex-FC Tokyo attacker, who bagged his first goal of the Championship season recently against Bristol City.

He failed to find consistent form earlier in the season when played in a deeper central role, but has excelled in the first-team set-up as of late down the right flank.

Japan face a trio of South American sides during the break, with friendlies against Uruguay, Venezuela, and Ecuador scheduled.

Matsuki will be hoping he can get on the pitch for some minutes, as he potentially makes his senior debut for the Samurai Blue.

Ryan Manning & Finn Azaz (Republic of Ireland)

Ryan Manning and Finn Azaz are regulars in the Republic of Ireland fold, away from Matsuki being so new to Hajime Moriyasu's group.

Between them, the two Saints first-team staples have 37 caps, but neither player competed in the 2026 World Cup, as their nation failed to reach the illustrious competition.

This will be their first outing together for their international side since March, therefore, with Azaz surely eager to pick up just his second goal for The Boys in Green, after collecting a stunning seven goal contributions in the Championship so far.

Moreover, Ryan Manning will want to feature in defence - having sat out his nation's last clash against North Macedonia - as his country play Kosovo, Israel, Austria, and then Israel again in Group D of the Nations League.

Daniel Peretz (Israel)

Daniel Peretz will be lining up for the opposition, strangely, when Israel faces the Republic of Ireland two times in quick succession.

The ex-Bayern Munich stopper is a regular now for his nation, amassing 12 senior caps since his debut against Cyprus in 2022.

He kept a clean sheet on his last international outing, as Ran Ben-Shimon's men won 1-0 against Albania.

He has failed to keep a single clean sheet in Championship action this season, however, so it will be interesting to see how he fares against Azaz, alongside butting heads with Austria and Kosovo.

Romeo Akachukwu (Republic of Ireland U21s)

The only U21 call-up - at the time of writing - is Romeo Akachukwu, as he prepares to play for the Republic of Ireland U21s.

The exciting midfielder has been in and around the first-team group at the Saints this season, with a goal even coming his way right at the start of the campaign, when Southampton comfortably beat Colchester United 2-0 in the EFL Cup.

His first team minutes have been limited since, as the bread and butter of the Championship kicked on, so he will be hungry to express himself for his country, as the U21s prepare to enter back into UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification.

The 20-year-old has only been capped twice at this level before, as Jim Crawford's youthful group prepare for tough games against Slovakia and England, alongside Kazaksthan.
